How To Clean Travertine Patio

Your pool patio is looking better than ever! Congratulations on completing your home improvement project and now the trick is to keep it looking as clean and as new as possible. Luckily, the benefit of using travertine tilesis that they are very easy to take care of and even easier to clean. We have a few tips on how to keep your travertine tiles looking and feeling as good as the first day you installed them.

Travertine tiles are the perfect fit for any outdoor deck or pool patio area. Not only is the surface of the tile great for wet areas because of the tumbled finish but they are extremely porous. This is perfect because it allows for the water to not gather in one area while allowing for the water to be absorbed into it, leaving a dry non-slip surface.

Can you use travertine pool coping for salt water pools?

Cleaning the travertine pool coping is just as easy. The items you will need are a brush, bucket of warm water and soap. The cleaning process is pretty straight forward. You will want to take the brush and pour some of the warm water and soap mixture onto the tile. Swiftly brush the tiles in a circular motion to make sure you are getting into all the nooks and crannies in the tile. Most stains and dirt will be lifted from the tiles this way and will leave your tiles looking brand new!

For some of the more stubborn stains such as tree sap or berry droppings, as well as  mold or mildew, you may want to use a home remedy such as baking soda and vinegar. We do not recommend using anything like bleach or any other harsh chemicals as it can deteriorate the tiles over time. When using the baking soda and vinegar mix, you will want to pour the mix onto the tile and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then with the brush go in and again brush the stain away using a circular motion.

If all else fails and the stain will not come out, the last resort would be using a high pressure washer. High pressure washers work great with the tiles and do not damage the tiles, although we do recommend starting on the lowest setting and steadily increasing the pressure as needed for the stain. The pressure washer will lift whatever stain, mold or mildew that has built up on the tile.
